Paternity Fraud
Paternity fraud, a phenomenon more prevalent than commonly assumed, has been extensively studied in the UK. Research indicates a varied prevalence ranging from 1% to 30%. A 2018 study by the University of Warwick estimated the rate at 3%, while a 2021 study by the University of Oxford suggested 1%. A more recent investigation in 2023, highlighted in "Family Relations," specifically examined men required by courts to undergo paternity testing. This study revealed a significant 12% were not the biological fathers of their children.

There are 3 types of false allegations
Provably false allegation
This type of allegation is where an allegation has been made but it can be proved to be false.
An example is as follows"My husband was stalking me and following me in his car down High Wycombe, High Street on the 1st July". In this example the husband can categorically prove he was no where near High Wycombe as he was in Scotland that day. This is a provably false allegation.
False/Grossly exaggerated false allegation
This type of allegation is very common and part of the allegation maybe true but parts of it are false and grossly exaggerated.
An example is as follows " My husband and I were arguing. As he left the room he brushed past me and I felt scared".
What is true is that the husband and wife were arguing but the later part of the allegation is false and grossly exaggerated.
He said, she said false allegation
This is the most common type of false allegation.
An example is as follows " My husband slapped me across my face in the living room on 1st July". The husband denies the allegation but as there was no one there to independently verify if this allegation is true or false it's one person's word against another.

Motivations behind false allegations
The motivations for someone making false allegations of domestic abuse usually fall into 3 reasons. The sad truth is that it's females who usually make false allegations with a staggering 99.5% of the calls we receive come from men who have been falsely accused. We do however support females who have been falsely accused of domestic abuse. This article will explore the 3 main motivations.
1) A means and way to end the relationship and have the man removed from the house (Legal abuse)
This is by far the most common reason a false allegation of domestic abuse is made. Typically it goes like this. Up to 1 year before the relationship ends the female has mentally and psychologically ended the relationship with the man. In this period the female will become distant and start to abuse her partner emotionally and psychologically to make his life uncomfortable so he leaves of his own accord. The man maybe doesn't want to leave for various reasons (i.e doesn't want to spend less time with kids, nowhere to go, tries to fix relationship). Ultimately over time the female abuser snaps and makes a false allegation to the police, social services with one aim. To get the man out of the house and end the relationship. What usually follows is a non molestation order and the man is left in dire straits. We can help you if you find yourself in this position.
2) Revenge
This is the second most common motivation. The female may have been hurt by the male i.e he cheated or it could be in reverse and the female cheated and the male found out and as an act of revenge and deflection she makes a false allegation of domestic abuse. Also it's common to receive a false allegation if the man enters a new relationship and the female is vengeful that the male has moved on.
3) Encouraged by a legal professional or women's group
This is the third motivation. The break up could have been amicable but the female after speaking to a legal professional or women's group may have been advised to make allegations of domestic abuse so they can get an advantage in family court or receive free legal aid.
